High gloss Geoshine™. White Quartzite with off white base.
An exquisite Geocrete white polished concrete floor is the highlight of a chic renovation in the Melbourne bay-side suburb of Port Melbourne.
Retaining the period-style front facade of the house, the renovation adds a spacious and light-filled open plan kitchen and living space that extends out to an inviting alfresco area. Sandwiched between the original timber floors in the front of the house and the timber decking outside, the glossy Geoshine™ polished concrete makes a striking impact, and the juxtaposition of brick, timber, stainless steel and corrugated iron with the floor’s brilliant white hue and mirror-like finish makes a visually exciting contrast.
Supplied by Hanson Concrete, the sparkling quartzite aggregate ranges in size from the standard 14mm to a more unusually large 20mm, and is offset beautifully in an off-white base. Geocrete’s Paul Warner meticulously ground the floor to a full stone exposure, and then polished it to a stunning high-gloss, giving the floor its gorgeous lustre.
The owners, Nik and Kathryn, said they continue to be blown away by the floor’s beauty. “Everyone who has seen the polished concrete floor, including tradesmen and friends, is amazed at the result. It has become the ‘feature’ of the renovation.”
Nik said that they were thrilled with their decision to use Geocrete, whom they chose after obtaining two quotes from a list of contractors.
“Whilst both quotes were competitive, the choice soon became obvious. Paul Warner was extremely helpful, and along with his quote he provided written step by step information on the process involved. He was happy to liaise with our concreter to ensure perfect preparation, enabling him to achieve the best result possible.”
Nik was also impressed by Paul’s outstanding customer service. “After the initial ‘grind’, Paul immediately contacted us to provide feedback. In fact, he even sent photos and videos from his phone as we were unable to get there. Such is Paul’s pride and passion for his work, he was very keen for us to be there after the final process, to see our reaction.”
Nik said he would highly recommend Paul to fellow renovators. “He is professional, efficient, a perfectionist in his craft and he clearly takes great pride in his work.”
Paul said that Kathryn and Nik were also thrilled with how easy it is to maintain the beauty and shine of their new floor, particularly when compared with their home’s original timber flooring. “Old timber floors are often irregular and wear unevenly, and can gather dust and be difficult to keep clean. Polished concrete on the other hand is a breeze to maintain, particularly floors with a high-gloss sheen.”
