High gloss Geoshine™. Quartzite with off white base.
This project was a great job to be involved in- it was the first time I had been on the show, the second being for The Block- Greenhouse. It is always very exciting to be a part of the show, I always have enjoyable and unique experiences. This time it was for The Block- Fan Vs Favourites. The contestants who chose me to do the floor were fantastic. They had a great sense of humour and were wonderful to work for. I won the jackpot with Brad and Dale as not all the contestants can be so fun to work with! The job itself had quite a lot of pressure, partly because of the nature of the show (lots of fast paced intensity from the contestants) and partly because I didn’t want to make a fool out of myself on television! Luckily there was more drama from the other contestants than from the floor or from my two partners.
To start off, I presented Brad and Dale with a number of colours and choices from polished concrete samples. They chose well, going with a Quartzite Aggregate and a High Gloss finish with an off-white concrete base. Then the hard work really started- the apartment we were working on was on the first floor, so a crane had to be used to get the equipment up there (my grinding machine weighs half a tonne). Then I spent four days total on the floor, which paid off when the judges gave the finished floor the thumbs up, calling it ‘breath taking’. When it was over we all gave the floor a massive kiss! The appearance on the show also got Geocrete its’ second appearance in the Tyrolit Newsletter 2014, Tyrolit is a huge company for concrete solutions and products. Overall, it was such a fantastic project to be involved in, with wins for everyone.
